Abstract

  • In October 2019 there was a deflation of 0.02 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 145.58.
  • Deflation occurred due to falling prices as indicated by the decrease in the expenditure group index namely the foodstuffs group of 0.02 percent; education, recreation and sports group by 0,02 percent; clothing group by 0,12 percent; and the transportation, communication and financial services group by 0.41 percent. Meanwhile, the expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the index were processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco by 0.21 percent; the health group by 0.25 percent and the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group by 0.02 percent.
  • The calendar year inflation rate (January-October) 2019 is 2.76 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (October 2019 against October 2018) is 4.68 percent.
  • The price component set by the government experienced deflation of 0.23 percent, the volatile component also contributed to deflation of 0.13 percent. While the core component experienced inflation of 0.09 percent.
  • From 82 CPI cities, 43 cities experienced inflation and 39 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Manado at 1.22 percent with CPI of 136.49 and the lowest at 0.01 percent occurred in Pematangsiantar, Tual, and Ternate. While the highest deflation occurred in Balikpapan by 0.69 percent with CPI of 140.49 and the lowest in Palopo city by 0.01 percent with CPI of 136.35.
