Abstract

In August 2019 there was a deflation of 0.10 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 145.48.
Deflation occurred due to falling prices as indicated by the decrease in the expenditure group index namely the transportation, communication and financial services group by 1.45 percent. While other expenditure groups experienced an increase in index, namely the foodstuffs group of 0.20 percent; processed foods, beverages, cigarettes, and tobacco by 0.02 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 0.09 percent; clothing group by 0.59 percent; the health group by 0.25 percent and the education, recreation and sports group by 0.04 percent.
The calendar year inflation rate (January – August) 2019 is 2.69 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2019 against August 2018) is 4.31 percent.
The core component in August 2019 experienced inflation of 0.41 percent. On the other hand, the price component regulated by the government and the volatile component experienced deflation of 1.08 and 0.51 percent.
Out of 82 CPI cities, 44 cities experienced inflation and 38 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Kudus by 0.82 percent with CPI of 144.56 and the lowest occurred in Pare-Pare by 0.04 percent with CPI of 132.02. While the highest deflation occurred in Bau-Bau of 2.10 percent with CPI of 136.38 and the lowest in Tegal city of 0.02 percent with CPI of 134.22.
