Abstract

  • The economy of the Bangka Belitung Islands quarter II-2020 measured based on Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices (ADHB) reached Rp. 17.84 trillion and GDP at constant prices (ADHK) in 2010 reached Rp. 12.85 trillion.
  • The economy of the Bangka Belitung Islands in quarter II-2020 compared to quarter II-2019 (y-on-y) experienced a contraction (negative growth) of 4.98 percent, down when compared to the achievements of quarter II-2019 which grew by 3.45 percent. From the production side, more business fields are contracted than businesses that are growing. Business fields that experienced the deepest contraction were the Transportation and Warehousing Business Field. While in terms of expenditure, the biggest contraction occurred in the foreign export component.
  • The economy of the Bangka Belitung Islands quarter II-2020 against the previous quarter (q-to-q) contracted by 2.38 percent. From the production side, the decline was caused by a contraction that occurred in most business fields, where the deepest contraction occurred in the Transportation and Warehousing Business Field. Meanwhile, in terms of expenditure, the biggest contraction was experienced by foreign export components.
  • The economy of the Bangka Belitung Islands in the first semester of 2020 contracted by 1.88 percent compared to the first semester of 2019 (c-to-c). From the production side, the deepest contraction occurred in the Transportation and Warehousing Business Field. Meanwhile in terms of expenditure, the biggest contraction was experienced by foreign export components.
  • The existence of the Covid-19 pandemic that has spread to various countries has affected the economy on a local, national and global scale. In the Bangka Belitung Islands itself, the Covid-19 pandemic began in late March 2020. Since then, the government has largely imposed restrictions on community economic activities, which in turn caused a contraction in the economy of the Bangka Belitung Islands in quarter II-2020.
  • The spatial structure of the island of Sumatra in the second quarter of 2020 was dominated by the provinces of North Sumatra and Riau. North Sumatra Province gave the largest contribution to the GRDP of the island of Sumatra, which amounted to 24.35 percent, followed by Riau Province amounted to 20.71 percent. While the Bangka Belitung Islands Province only contributed 2.20 percent to the GRDP of Sumatra Island in the second quarter of 2020.
