Abstract

  • In March 2020, the level of inequality of population expenditure in the Bangka Belitung Islands measured by the Gini Ratio was 0.262. This figure is stable when compared with the September 2019 Gini Ratio which is also equal to 0.262. Meanwhile, when compared with the March 2019 Gini Ratio of 0.269 it fell by 0.007 points.
  • The Gini Ratio in urban areas in March 2020 was 0.276, an increase compared to the conditions in September 2019 (0.272) and decreased compared to the conditions in March 2019 (0.278). Whereas the Gini Ratio in rural areas in March 2020 was 0.220, down compared to the Gini Ratio in September 2019 and March 2019, respectively 0.223 and 0.230.
  • Another measure of inequality that is often used is the percentage of expenditure in the lowest 40 percent population group. Based on this measure the level of inequality is divided into 3 (three) categories, namely "high" if the number is below 12 percent, "moderate" if the number ranges between 12-17 percent, and "low" if the number is above 17 percent.
  • In March 2020, the distribution of expenditure in the lowest 40 percent group was 24.39 percent. This means that population expenditure is still in the category of low inequality. If broken down by region, by region urban the figure was recorded at 23.36 percent, while for rural areas at 26.92 percent, which means both in urban and rural areas are included in the category low inequality.
