Abstract

In March 2020 deflation occurred by 0.07 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 103.26. Out of 90 CPI cities, 43 cities experienced inflation and 47 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Lhokseumawe by 0.64 percent with CPI of 104.20 and the lowest occurred in Pekanbaru, Surakarta and Surabaya by 0.01 percent. While the highest deflation occurred in Timika by 1.91 percent with CPI of 102.79 and the lowest occurred in Tangerang by 0.01 percent with CPI of 104.40.
Deflation occurred due to falling prices as indicated by the decline in most indexes of the expenditure group, namely: the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group by 0.01 percent and the transportation group by 1.46 percent; While the groups that experienced inflation were the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.39 percent; clothing and footwear group by 0.01 percent; household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance by 0.1 percent; and personal care and other services by 0.7 percent. While the health group; information, communication and financial services groups; recreation, sports and culture groups; education group; and the food and beverage / restaurant supply group did not experience an index / stable change.
The March 2020 calendar year inflation rate is 0.34 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (March 2020 against March 2019) is 1.94 percent.
The energy component in March 2020 is stable or does not experience changes in the index. The inflation rate of the energy component of the March 2020 calendar year is -0.27 percent and the inflation rate of the energy component year-on-year (March 2020 to March 2019) is -0.24 percent. The food component in March 2020 experienced inflation of 0.27 percent. The inflation rate of the foodstuff component of the March 2020 calendar year is 1.10 percent and the inflation rate of the foodstuff component year to year (March 2020 against March 2019) is 4.60 percent.
