Abstract

  • In September 2019 there was inflation of 0.09 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 145.61.
  • Inflation occurred because of an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the expenditure group index namely the transportation, communication and financial services group by 1.48 percent; processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco by 0.41 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 0.07 percent; clothing group by 0,37 percent; and the education, recreation and sports group by 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, expenditure groups that experienced a decrease in index were the foodstuffs group by 0.78 percent and the health group by 0.02 percent.
  • The calendar year inflation rate (January – September) 2019 is 2.78 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (September 2019 to September 2018) is 4.35 percent.
  • The price component regulated by the government and the core component in September 2019 experienced inflation of 1.06 percent and 0.44 percent. On the other hand, the volatile component of inflation experienced a deflation of 1.66 percent.
  • From 82 CPI cities, 70 cities experienced deflation and only 12 cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Meulaboh by 0.91 percent with CPI of 139.48 and the lowest occurred in Palopo by 0.01 percent with CPI of 136.36. While the highest deflation occurred in Sibolga at 1.94 percent with CPI of 144.61 and the lowest in Surabaya at 0.02 percent with CPI of 137.13.
